Spring Break Outfit Series: Ireland

This series is a compilation of what I wore on my spring break trip to Ireland as well as what I observed on the streets of Ireland. Through the Irish countryside and cities such as Galway, Cork, and Dublin, my friend Stephanie and I dressed for the rain, sheep, and great food.

The first few days were spent in Galway and a small town called Renvyle. The weather was unpredictable and it rained most of the days there. With this said, I paired a Ralph Lauren crewneck sweatshirt with straight legged jeans and white sneakers which were the New Balance CT302s. Stephanie wore green corduroy pants, a striped tee, and converse.

Our next stop was Cork and a visit to Blarney Castle. We kissed the Blarney stone wearing the Levi low rise pro jeans with a black mock neck sweater and the same white New Balance CT302s. Stephanie wore a handmade sweater from a local shop in Galway, flared leggings, fingerless gloves, and the same converse.

Next we visited Cashel where we saw many sheep. I wore black crossover jeans, a purple sweater, and black chunky boots.

The last few days we stayed in Dublin. One day we toured the Guinness distillery. I wore straight legged jeans, a white lace tank, and chunky purple cardigan with the same white sneakers. Stephanie wore flared jeans, a red tank with a crocheted top over the tank, and Veja sneakers.

On our last day in Ireland, Stepahnie wore wide leg white pants, a brown multi colored sweater, and converse. I wore a gray sweater with straight legged jeans and white sneakers.

I found the fashion in Ireland to be quite varied, with a lot of diversity in what people wore on the daily. I specifically observed the curated outfits of students from Trinity College Dublin. The clothing items I noticed most people were wearing in Ireland were cargo pants/parachute pants, midi skirts, and scarves. Trinity College Dublin has a series on Instagram called Campus Couture which attempts to display the stylish students who have been seen roaming about the college. I enjoyed looking through the outfits students put together. Walking around their campus and quad, I found great inspiration in what everyone was wearing, and after my visit, I created a few looks myself. I was influenced to bring back items that I had phased out of my wardrobe and revive them. I hopped back onto the trend if you will.

I think the locals have differing styles from country to country, but what stood out most to me was the restyling of items from past trends, like items I had once worn in middle school. It's more sustainable to curate new looks by just circling back to your clothes that are “out of style” than to hop onto micro trends —  using what you already have to replicate trends or create something totally new can be just as rewarding.

No two outfits were the same, every color of the rainbow is mixed and matched in one moment, and then blacks and beige are worn exclusively in the next.

Fashion ought to be a means of communicating who you are and what you want others to know about you. You shouldn’t hesitate to wear a unique outfit. Enjoy yourself and use your imagination rather than taking things too seriously.
